‘Agatha All Along’ and the Witches’ Road reach their end
The Disney+ series wrapped up in spectacular fashion. PLUS: Jon Stewart sticks around, Marvel’s 2025 preview, and Dave Chappelle isn’t hosting the post-election ‘SNL.’
Hello! This Friday edition of the newsletter celebrates the two-year anniversary of the relaunch of Popculturology. Over the past two years, I’ve published 255 newsletters — that includes Deep SNL Thoughts, The Box Office Report, The Monthly and a bunch of special editions.
When I started writing Popculturology as a newsletter back in 2022, I didn’t really know what to expect. I just wanted to start writing about pop culture again. I wasn’t sure if people would subscribe or for how long I’d keep going. I guess I still don’t have the answers to those questions, but I have no plans to stop anytime soon. Hopefully you all feel the same when it comes to reading Popculturology.
As always, thanks for reading Popculturology. Here’s to another two years.

“The Road wasn’t real until you made it real”
Agatha All Along’s journey down the Witches’ Road has come to an end. And what a journey it was.
Jac Schaeffer once again delivered some of the MCU’s best storytelling. The WandaVision creator returned to the Marvel fold to continue the tale of Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha, continuing the story she began with these characters several years ago.
One of the most impressive parts of what Schaeffer did with Agatha All Along is how she was able to bend the events of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness back into the story and tone originally set by WandaVision. (Basically the reverse of whatever it was JJ Abrams tried and failed to do with The Rise of Skywalker after Rian Johnson advanced The Force Awakens’ story with The Last Jedi.) I don’t know why Schaeffer wasn’t involved with Multiverse of Madness, but it’s clear now that any plans for a Scarlet Witch movie need to run through her.
While Elizabeth Olsen never appeared in Agatha All Along, her character loomed large over the series. From the events in Westview to Agatha’s loss of powers to the reincarnation of Billy Maximoff. While Agatha was Wanda’s nemesis in WandaVision, she now leaves Agatha All Along as Billy’s ally in his search for his brother, Tommy. (In a neat bit of storytelling, we saw Billy restore Agatha’s powers — the very powers that were taken from her by Wanda.)
