The Box Office Report: ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ raises a weekend win
Honestly, everyone’s just waiting for the Taylor Swift concert movie to hit theaters next weekend.
Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Oct. 6-8, 2023.
1. The Exorcist: Believer
Weekend gross: $27.2M
Total domestic gross: $27.2M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA
For some reason I thought there were like twenty Exorcist movies at this point. It turns out The Exorcist: Believer is only the sixth movie in the franchise, with 2004’s Exorcist: The Beginning and 2005’s Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist being divergent versions of the same movie.
Of the modern Exorcist movies, The Exorcist: Believer scored the best opening weekend. It’s $27.2 million debut topped the $18.1 million that Exorcist: The Beginning opened with in 2004. Universal Pictures probably isn’t celebrating yet, though, as the studio reportedly spent $400 million for rights to a new Exorcist trilogy that Believer kicks off.

The second theatrically released PAW Patrol movie is less than $2 million away from topping the lifetime domestic box office haul of its predecessor. The creatively titled PAW Patrol: The Movie grossed $40.1 million domestically in 2021.
3. Saw X
Weekend gross: $8.2M
Total domestic gross: $32.6M
Last weekend: 2nd
Percent drop: 55
There may be some life left in the Saw franchise. Saw X now stands at $32.6 million in North America, jumping past Spiral ($23.2 million) and Saw VI ($27.7 million) and getting within range of Jigsaw ($38.1 million) and Saw 3D ($45.7 million).
