The teens and tweens are buying ‘Wild Robot’ tickets to sneak into ‘Terrifier 3’
Thanks to the unrated horror film, the animated classic is getting some bonus bucks. PLUS: A new trailer for ‘Dune: Prophecy,’ Gunn introduces Krypto, and The Rock teases a JJ Abrams project.
Happy Friday edition of Popculturology! I finally turned off our AC for the first time since like February. I’m sure I’ll have to turn it back on in a few days, but for now let’s celebrate the slight drop in my electricity bill by getting to this week’s pop culture news ...
Um, thanks, Terrifier 3?
If you’ve been reading Popculturology for the last few weeks, you know that I’m a massive fan of The Wild Robot. I put my preorder in this week for the 4K blu-ray of the film after coming to the conclusion that DreamWorks Animation isn’t releasing a steelbook edition of the film. (The Wild Robot is already available to purchase digitally if you can’t make it theaters to see this masterpiece.)
Based on last weekend’s box office results, it seems like moviegoers are still a fan of The Wild Robot too. With another $14 million, the animated film came in No. 2 behind Terrifier 3.
As Joker: Folie à Deux crashed and burned at the box office last weekend, Terrifier 3shockingly took the No. 1 spot. The Wild Robot held steady at No. 2 — and it might have Terrifier 3 to thank. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s distribution sources, “The Wild Robot saw a noticeable bump, and [they] speculate that teenagers and tweens bought tickets to that film and then sneaked into Terrifier 3.”
Yes, the teens and tweens were possibly buying tickets to The Wild Robot in order to sneak into Terrifier 3.
